One of our highest priorities at Selah Counseling Services is offering individuals a safe, professional, and supportive environment to address life’s challenges. What you can expect from individual therapy sessions at here is an open approach to working through issues directly associated with how you function as an individual in relationships. You will look at your strengths and your growth areas, and will collaborate with your therapist on what you want to achieve.
Our goal is very simple – we want to provide an experience that will be the foundation of positive change in your life. Our services for individuals include treatment for traumatic experiences such as sexual and physical abuse, depression, anxiety, marital difficulties, divorce recovery, being raised in addictive families, and other issues that impact our lives. We utilize a variety of approaches that support adults, adolescents, and children in the individual process.
Play is the true language of children. Through play therapy, children can communicate their thoughts, feelings, needs, and even trauma they have experienced. Play therapy can take several forms—sand tray therapy, experiential play, directed play art, projects, story-telling, plus more. The hope in play therapy is to allow children to work through their pain, grief, trauma, and behavioral issues in ways that are understandable and reassuring.
A play therapist understands and works with the symbolism of the child’s play and designs the play therapy session to meet the needs that have been expressed through play. Play therapy is generally effective for children ages two through eleven but is used with even younger or older children depending on the child’s preferences and emotional development. Play therapy provides safe opportunities for the child to search for and experiment with solutions for their problems.
Group therapy is an opportunity to take what you have experienced and learned in life or individual therapy and apply it to relationships with others who are equally committed to growth and change. Group therapy can be the most challenging yet often the most rewarding endeavor in facilitating the therapeutic process. Groups are led by experienced professionals who are dedicated to helping develop individual growth in relationship to others.
Families are the crucible of life. All of us come from a family and there are many adjectives to describe them. A few are: intact, dysfunctional, functional, fun, faithful, formal, rigid, safe, abusive, disconnected, enmeshed, flexible, and the like. Family is the place we learn rules, roles, habits, value, competency, a sense of belonging, and how to cope with life as we know it. Sometimes the rules we learn, the roles we adopt, or the habits we develop impair our relationships. Family therapy is a safe respectful way to look at a family’s dynamics and work towards making a home in which members want to live and be a part of.
Selah Counseling Services is committed to partnering with churches to support their ministry to individuals, couples, families, and specific groups. We believe that being part of a community requires a commitment to assist fellow Christians in the process of growing to become all that God has created them to be. Sometimes trials and life can be extremely difficult and just as any family needs support, we believe churches benefit from the support of experienced professionals committed to a faith in Christ.
