I first knew I wanted to be a therapist when I was in high school. I went to college and got my degree in Psychology and then went on to get my Master’s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. When I first started counseling in 1988 I worked at a center for children/teens who had been abused and for their non-offending parent/s. Since then, I have continued to focus on trauma therapy with children, teens and adults. In addition, I really enjoy working with women of all ages in helping them to develop an understanding of themselves with themselves, their families and with God. There is great fulfillment for me in helping a person to grow into whom God really made them to be, despite the circumstances of their lives.
I have been at Selah Counseling Services for over a decade now and am continuing to enjoy and grow with my colleagues and my clients. It is a privilege to be a part of this field and of this organization.
Life is moving at an accelerated pace in our culture. You may be experiencing muscle tension, headaches, sleeplessness, and feelings of panic. In this realm, anxiety is your challenger and he will consume your mind with doubts, racing thoughts, and drive you to burnout. Anxiety is an insidious opponent who would like you to believe that your worries are uncontrollable, that you need absolute certainty in order to function, and that the future will be a continuous cycle of problems.
I understand. I have experienced the loud noise of anxiety and have invested in training and education to help provide you with the tools and skills needed to overcome the obstacles anxiety will throw your way.
I am passionate about my work as a therapist. I have been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, an evidence-based therapeutic method that has been shown to be especially effective in treating anxiety and anxiety related disorders. Within this framework, I partner with clients to help reduce the noise in your head and create a more balanced, creative life. I believe transformation is not only possible but achievable. I have a strong background working with clients who struggle with OCD and Tourette’s. I also enjoy working with individuals, young adults and also have a special interest in working with female clients to explore distinct strengths they bring to professional and personal relationships.
Founding Selah Counseling Services as a nonprofit counseling center has been the culmination of one of my life’s passions. As a professional therapist, I am passionate about caring for our clients, as well as our Interns and Therapists. It is my goal to assist individuals to have healthy relationships with God, themselves and others. These relationships are vital in having a reasonably content and well-rounded life. I am one of the Clinical Supervisors. I am trained and experienced in working with trauma, women’s issues, couples, teens and families. I am Level II Trained in EMDR; a Trained Facilitator of The Parent Project, The Nurtured Heart Approach and Parenting With Love and Logic.
