Have you ever felt so down or lifeless inside, like you’re sometimes not even sure you really exist? Life has been tough…so many disappointments, hurts, and harmful situations….that you can’t even tell if there is you in you? No matter if you are a teen or an adult, it is my desire to work with you to confront and deal with those feelings and thoughts. If you have experienced depression, anxiety, trauma or multiple traumas, it is my hope to help you find your SELF in the here and now. Using eclectic methods including talk therapy, EMDR, sensory-motor activities, and creative endeavors, you will:
-Learn how the brain is affected by trauma
-Recognize and accept the truths about who you really are
-Allow the truth (and not the difficulties or traumas) to define you
-Gain positive coping skills
-Move from just surviving into being empowered to live your life
In my work with children who have suffered abuse/trauma, who have gone or are going through divorce, who are struggling with depression, anxiety or ADD, I also use play therapy and sand tray techniques to help them handle and recover from their pain. As play is the language of children, the methods utilized in play and sand tray therapy help children to feel safe to deal with the thoughts/beliefs and feelings they may not be able to verbalize. Regardless of age, it is my goal to make each session an affirming and supportive opportunity for growth.
I first knew I wanted to be a therapist when I was in high school. I went to college and got my degree in Psychology and then went on to get my Master’s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. When I first started counseling in 1988 I worked at a center for children/teens who had been abused and for their non-offending parent/s. Since then, I have continued to focus on trauma therapy with children, teens and adults. In addition, I really enjoy working with women of all ages in helping them to develop an understanding of themselves with themselves, their families and with God. There is great fulfillment for me in helping a person to grow into whom God really made them to be, despite the circumstances of their lives.
I have been at Selah Counseling Services for over a decade now and am continuing to enjoy and grow with my colleagues and my clients. It is a privilege to be a part of this field and of this organization.
